“The most difficult times for many of us are the ones we give ourselves.” – Pema Chodron
How do you talk to yourself? What does the voice in your head sound like?
Is your inner dialogue understanding, calm, kind? Or does an impatient, judgmental and demanding jerk live in your head?
People often wonder why they are so unhappy, and look around for reasons. Is it the job, the spouse, the kids, the money concerns? But what if it’s closer in than that?
How could you be happy, or have any kind of ease, if 24/7 you’re being berated, judged and pressured?
Before you look around for reasons for your dis-ease, look at the way you talk to yourself. Relate to yourself the way you would relate to a good friend, with kindness, compassion, understanding, interest and patience. Talk to yourself the way you talk to those you care about. Over time, you just might start to feel cared about.
